Eco-Initiatives Overview
Sensormatic Retail Solutions has focused on design for the environment and improving our environmental performance. We work to develop processes and design products that offer a reduced environmental footprint throughout all the phases of the product life cycle. Over the past several years, our environmental focus has expanded from the manufacturing arena to the environmental aspects of the products. This expanded focus allows us to be proactive during the product development stages.
As a company, we are committed to preserving natural resources, reducing environmental impact and developing environmentally friendly products and processes. Below we emphasize the ongoing work that is being done to reduce the environmental impact of our products to date. In particular, the use of environmentally friendly materials, improved product packaging along with reuse and recycling options for our products. Ultimately, we are working to reduce the environmental footprint of our products and thus, the footprint of our customers’ products.
Our Ultra•Max® labels are compliant with:
- RoHS (2002/95/EC): Restriction of Hazardous Substances: Lead (0.1%), Mercury (0.1%), Cadmium (0.01%), Hexavalent chromium (0.1%), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%), and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDE) (0.1%)
- JIG Annex A & B: This guide represents an industry-wide consensus on the relevant materials and substances that shall be disclosed by suppliers when those materials and substances are present in products incorporated into Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) products.
- REACH (EC) No 1907/2006: Under REACH regulation, Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) are the hazardous substances to be controlled in addition to the restricted substances. SVHC refer to those substances classified as Cat. 1 and 2 CMR (carcinogen, mutagen, & toxic for reproduction); PBT (Persistent Bioaccumulative Toxic); vPvB (very Persistent very Bioaccumulative) or substances of equivalent concern (e.g. endocrine disruptor).
- CONEG: This legislation is aimed at banning the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium in packaging and packaging inks.
- CPSIA: This act establishes consumer product safety standards and other safety requirements for children’s products.
Our EAS products comply with RoHS (2002/95/EC) as well.
Green Initiatives
New Product Development
During product development stages, we focus on our suppliers complying with applicable environmental regulations as well as demonstrating their commitment to the environment.
Product Packaging
To reduce packaging waste and costs, two alternatives are considered as packaging innovations: reducing the size and costs of packages and decreasing bulk-pack packaging size.
Recycling Programs
Materials recycling is part of our corporate strategy to improve environmental sustainability. For example, we have developed a program to collect and recycle our Visible Source Tag (VST) product. VST tags are ground and the materials are separated yielding re-usable ABS plastic with a purity of 99.99%. Only VST’s plastic parts are sent to a recycler to ensure the purity of the recycled ABS. Other materials in the tag are being analyzed for recycling.
Recycling partnerships
We work with recyclers to responsibly manage the VST recycling program world wide. We partner with industry leaders in recycling to ensure our products are disposed of responsibly. In the European Union we collect our EEE at the end of life and work with local companies to ensure proper recycling and disposal.
Customer Partnering
We establish good relationships with our customers to ensure our products and processes comply with their requirements. We have been designated a “Certification of Green Partner” from companies such as Sony and Canon, among others.
