OFFICE DEPOT SELECTS ADT'S SENSORMATIC® ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS FOR CHAINWIDE INSTALLATION
Retailer's source tagging initiative drives decision
BOCA RATON , Fla. - September 15, 2003 -- ADT Security Services, Inc., a business unit of Tyco Fire & Security, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to install its Sensormatic Ultra*Max® anti-theft systems in all North American-based Office Depot locations. Office Depot currently operates more than 870 stores in the United States and Canada . The roll-out is expected to be completed by October 2003.
A key factor behind Office Depot's decision to install the Sensormatic anti-theft systems on a chain-wide basis was its plan to implement a source tagging program. Source tagging is the process whereby anti-theft labels or tags are applied to merchandise during the manufacturing or ackaging process and shipped to retail locations already protected from theft.
According to ADT President Mike Snyder, source tagging offers retailers a higher level of protection than traditional in-store tagging programs because the anti-theft tags are hidden inside the product making it difficult for potential shoplifters to remove them.
"Source tagging delivers a more thorough, consistent approach to reducing theft," said Snyder. "Leading retailers in most major market segments have adopted source tagging programs using the Sensormatic Ultra*Max technology."
