TOP THREE RETAIL SCANNER MANUFACTURERS INCORPORATE ULTRA•MAX® DEACTIVATION CAPABILITIES INTO THEIR OFFERINGS FOR ADT CUSTOMERS

Datalogic® Metrologic® and NCR® Scanners to Feature Seamless One-Step Scanning and EAS Deactivation, Boosting Checkout Efficiency and Loss Prevention Effectiveness

DÜSSELDORF, Germany – 27 February, 2008 – ADT Security Services introduces at EuroShop 2008 in Germany this week an extension of Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® EAS deactivation capabilities that are fully integrated with checkout scanners from three leading manufacturers – Datalogic, Metrologic and NCR.

With superior Sensormatic Ultra•Max acousto-magnetic technology incorporated into each manufacturer’s checkout scanners, retailers can enhance their point-of-sale (POS) efficiency and increase the effectiveness of their loss prevention programs. Key advantages of this genuine Sensormatic Ultra•Max integrated scanning/deactivation solution include:

  • Addresses employee theft better by allowing deactivation only after a valid barcode is scanned.
  • Delivers high-performance deactivation using a unique antenna configuration to produce a multi-plane deactivation zone that is compatible to the scanner read range.
  • Enhances checkout efficiency by delivering faster deactivation and scanning, while reducing multiple attempts to scan protected merchandise.
  • Offers flexibility because the scanners are field-upgradable, giving retailers the ability to embrace the integrated solution today or to upgrade whenever they choose.

“The combined development effort between Sensormatic and leading POS scanner manufacturers shows how cooperation can improve the overall value of each one’s respective technology,” cited Drew Nathanson, Practice Director for Venture Development Corporation’s AIDC, RFID, and Retail Automation division. “This is a trend that benefits retailers and their customers.”

The Sensormatic Ultra•Max integrated scanning/deactivation solution was designed with features important to European retailers, according to John Smith, vice president of Retail Sales for ADT Europe, Middle East and Africa. “It is the first to optimize efficiencies while meeting retailers’ request for more integrated EAS solutions at the point of sale,” he said.

“Working in concert with the three leading scanning manufacturers enabled ADT to provide much more efficient all-in-one EAS scanning solutions,” Smith added. “These solutions cover a large percentage of our European installed base of retailers. Now our retail customers can improve the integrity and efficiency of their checkout processes with this enhanced deactivation reliability and performance for Ultra•Max-protected merchandise.”
