SENSORMATIC ESTABLISHES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE MINORITY STUDENTS AT FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY
Demonstrates Company’s Commitment to Providing Educational Opportunities For Tomorrow’s Engineering Leaders
Boca Raton, FL, November 5, 2008 - Sensormatic Retail Solutions, a business unit of Tyco Safety Products, announced today that it has presented a $25,000 scholarship endowment to the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) based in Boca Raton, Florida. This donation provides FAU with a perpetual scholarship of $1,000 per year for their Innovation Leadership Honors Program, designed not only to teach engineering skills but also to teach the leadership skills missing in most Engineering curricula.
Nationally recognized for high quality education and research programs in the engineering and computer science fields, FAU provides students with a community of scholars dedicated to promoting a stimulating and productive academic environment to help shape tomorrow’s leaders. Course offerings are presented on-campus, off-campus, and through distance learning to provide students with a wide range of educational options in bioengineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, geomatics engineering, mechanical engineering and ocean engineering.
“We are exceedingly grateful to Sensormatic for this generous donation that will help support our efforts of becoming the institution of choice for regional students, business, and industry,” stated Karl K. Stevens, Ph.D., P.E., dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. “This endowment demonstrates the Company’s strong commitment of helping ensure undergraduate minority students have the opportunity to achieve their dream of becoming inventive leaders in the field of engineering. Our collaboration with one of the industry’s leading technology providers, known for delivering innovative solutions, closely parallels our vision for offering students inspiring academic and research programs for future career advancement.”
“As a Company recognized for consistent focus on innovation and with hundreds of patents for new technology solutions, Sensormatic is dedicated to supporting FAU’s educational programs that help drive engineering advancement for students that might not otherwise have the opportunity,” said Scott Clements, vice president and general manager, Sensormatic. “We believe in the College’s mission and support their academic efforts, knowing that this endowment will benefit their engineering leadership program – to generate future engineering leaders.”
