Sensormatic ® RFID Products to be Part of the LOGyCA
Latin America Technology Center
Boca Raton, Fla. – Oct.18, 2004 -- Tyco Fire & Security, an industry leader and global provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions through its Sensormatic ® brand, announced today that it is taking part in LOGyCA, a knowledge and multi-technology center located in Bogotá, Colombia and aimed at providing Latin American entrepreneurs with a one-stop technology demonstration and business decision center. LOGyCA will allow businesses to learn about leading-edge supply chain technologies, evaluate them for their own business needs and make technology decisions more quickly.
LOGyCA is developed by the IAC Colombia, a member of EAN International, a global standards-setting organization which oversees EPCglobal. EPCglobal is the standards-setting organization for electronic product code (EPC) to support the use of RFID in the supply chain. A number of leading supply chain technology providers have joined to provide product installations for the center. Technology demonstrations at the center include a distribution center, point-of-sale station, minimarket, health and financial services and a technology training area.
“This center will allow businesses within Latin America to more quickly and easily adopt new technology for the supply chain by giving them a place to view the latest solutions and learn how they work and what they can do,” said Dario Santana, President Tyco Fire & Security Latin America. “We are very interested in supporting this type of regional project that promotes technology and innovation in the supply chain.”
Tyco Fire & Security has provided LOGyCA with a fully deployed manufacturing, distribution and retail supply chain RFID demonstration. This Tyco Fire & Security-sponsored demonstration includes eight Sensormatic RFID readers, 20 Sensormatic RFID antennas, an RFID printer and Sensormatic Deployment Manager software. It also incorporates a labelling and pallet building station, two shipping/verification stations and two receiving stations. These products are part of the Sensormatic RFID portfolio of solutions, which have been specifically developed to provide the foundation for an RFID deployment. This foundation provides the support for further RFID investments in enterprise software and inventory management systems.
“With the help of technologically advanced partners such as Tyco Fire & Security, IAC Colombia has created LOGyCA, a showcase for the Latin American supply chain industry,” said Rafael Florez Barajas, director of IAC Colombia. “The Tyco Fire & Security team's professionalism, responsiveness and depth of technical knowledge were critical to ensuring that we can offer our members a world class RFID/EPC demonstration.”
According to George Reynolds , vice president of Tyco Fire & Security's RFID Development Group, “Our global capabilities enabled us to perform a site survey for LOGyCA and then design and deploy this extensive RFID demonstration system in less then three weeks. Our worldwide scope means that we can support RFID initiatives throughout the world. This capability is critical for global or multi-national retailers and manufacturers.”
Sensormatic RFID solutions are sold in most areas of the world via ADT.
