One simple reason: MUM

Mother's Day, celebrated in many countries around the world, is a special day honouring mothers. In the UK and Ireland, it is also known as Mothering Sunday and this year it was celebrated on the 27 March.

Apart from the family celebration, Mother’s Day has established itself as a key date on the Retailers Calendar and a post winter-sales boost for stores. Modern Mother's Day does not only involve surprising mum with a card and a stunning bouquet of flowers, but in recent years more exclusive gifts such as perfume, clothes or jewellery are also becoming more and more popular across the UK.

In fact, according to Statista, last year retail spend on Mother’s Day reached £1.34 billion and The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) has predicted this year’s Mother’s Day trading to be the strongest in two years!

Looking at Sensormatic Solutions Mother’s Day traffic data trends over recent years, we saw clear traffic spikes in the days leading to Mothering Sunday. Was the same trend visible also in 2022?
