The National Retail Federation (NRF) today announced that Tony D’Onofrio, president of Sensormatic Solutions, will be inducted into its Ring of Excellence (RoE) at the 2025 NRF PROTECT Awards. The ceremony will take place on June 24, 2025, as part of the NRF PROTECT annual conference, where Tony will be recognized alongside three of his peers.

The RoE serves as the organization’s loss prevention (LP) and asset protection “Hall of Fame,” recognizing outstanding industry leaders who have dedicated their careers to the pursuit of safer, more secure retail locations. The defining quality of recipients is that the industry would not be what it is today without their contributions. Per the presenting body, there is “no doubt” that Tony fits the bill.

A more than 30-year veteran of the retail technology industry, Tony has made a lasting impression. He prioritizes forward-thinking strategies that address key pain points for retailers, particularly in the LP space. Under D’Onofrio’s leadership, Sensormatic Solutions has focused on developing and releasing targeted solutions that attempt to curb total retail loss from source to store, championing an approach to combating shrink:

1. Next-gen technologies

Tony has led the expansion of Sensormatic Solutions portfolio, prioritizing outcome-led innovation. During his tenure, Tony has been a driving force behind advancements to Sensormatic Solutions technologies, like Shrink Analyzer and TrueVUE Cloud which help retailers understand how merchandise moves throughout their footprints to contextualize LP performance and highlight opportunities to improve.

2. Strategic partnerships

Under Tony’s leadership, Sensormatic Solutions has pursued strategic collaborations that enhance retailers’ LP ecosystems. Over the past year, Sensormatic Solutions has announced partnerships with Indyme, INEO and Thruvision, making it easier for retail partners to build comprehensive, holistic systems that support enterprise-wide loss prevention.

3. Legal frameworks

As ORC incidents become more frequent and more violent, Tony has been at the forefront of conversations about proposed advancements to the legislative policies around retail theft. As part of this work, he has contributed to reports and studies on the impact and prevalence of retail crime and delivered remarks at the NRF’s 2023 Fight Retail Crime Day on Capitol Hill.

4. Responsible retail

Tony also champions sustainability in retail with the introduction of Sensormatic Solutions new, sustainable SPX AM label, designed to reduce environmental impact and maintain precision loss prevention. The label is over 90% plastic-free and made from renewable, FSC-certified materials, fabricated using eco-friendly manufacturing processes, and shipped in recyclable packaging.

5. Retailer collaboration and engagement

Tony encourages collaboration as the key to progress, taking a ‘feet in the street’ approach to engage directly with retailers. Through global travel, customer-led events, and workshops, Tony fosters open dialogue with retailers to address industry challenges and shape impactful solutions together. He has also focused on Sensormatic Solutions’ Centers of Excellence in Bentonville, Arkansas, and A Coruña, Spain—innovation labs where retailers and the team collaborate to guide meaningful advancements. This hands-on approach ensures that innovations align with real-world retail needs.

Most importantly, Tony is a role model in the industry, embracing a customer-first mindset and encouraging his teams to do the same. He understands that retailers' needs must guide technological innovation, not the other way around. He puts communication with retail customers first at every turn, allowing him to truly understand the challenges the industry faces, knowing that’s the only way to come up with solutions with the potential to redefine retail—again and again.

Throughout his career, Tony has been widely recognized by industry peers for his contributions to loss prevention and retail innovation. He is committed to driving continuous improvements in the global retail industry and has been acknowledged by leading industry groups as one of the top 100 influencers in retail and technology.
